ImageActive Measurement Systems

Active Measurement Systems generate a reasonable conclusion of end-to-end speech quality. Our Active Measurement Systems include e.g. TraceSim and the easyVT.

ImagePassive Measurement Systems

Passive Measurement Systems are available for e.g. monitoring individual network segments. Nextragen offers e.g. TraceView 3Q , the flagship of the passive measurement systems.

ImagePESQ

To be able to make a reasonable statement about the end-to-end language quality of a VoIP connection, active measuring methods must be applied as for example PESQ.

ImageTraceSim VoIP

TraceSim VoIP and the free of charge VoIP client applicable in boundless numbers as a remote station are a solution for active localisation of problems in single network segments.

Solutions by Nextragen

To be able to measure properly the end-to-end speech quality in convergent networks, it is necessary to capture all network segments in the measurement. Only in that way a continuous quality statement is possible of a connection of participant A to participant B.

PESQServer
The Nextragen GmbH offers with the solution Trafficlyser PESQServer a possibility, at a reasonable price, to make PESQ measurements according to ITU T Rec. P.862, because only the Server has to have the PESQ license for the objective and automated speech quality evaluation. The measuring solutions for the service technician Trafficlyser easyVT for measurements of IP connections and Argus 145 for measurements from TDM connections (POTS, ISDN) need no PESQ licence, however, can carry out in teamwork with the Trafficlyser PESQServer a PESQ measurement and indicate a PESQ value of the measured speech quality in the display of the technician.

In the following an infrastructure is illustrated which is reality in many companies today. VoIP migrations must be carried out by the announcement of the Carrier to switch off the TDM networks and the introduction of Unified Communication applications during the next years. In the example a company has implemented a Softswitch in the IP backbone where all conversations are carried on. Because there are, however, locations in which still "old" telecommunication attachments are ran (maintenance contract and support contracts still run), all locations are not bound yet directly about the IP backbone to the "new" Softswitch. These "old" locations are bound over Voice gateways and other components. From that the need originates to have measuring technology which is able to carry out an end-to-end quality evaluation.

The active solutions of the Trafficlyser – measurement system are exactly made for this end-to-end measurements of the QoS (Quality of service) on networks and dispose of many functions for the introduction, troubleshooting and longterm monitoring of the QoS. All results are summarised into expressive reports with many graphics and serve thus the documentation and perpetuation of evidence of the measuring results. All results are summarised into expressive reports with many graphics and serve thus the documentation and perpetuation of evidence of the measuring results.

Error localisation with active measurement technology

The Nextragen GmbH offers with the VoIP Simulator TraceSim VoIP and the free of charge VoIP client applicable in boundless numbers as a remote station a solution for active localisation of errors / problems in single network segments. To determine problem segments of an end-to-end communication, the free TraceSim VoIP clients must be placed in the different network points, like displayed in next illustration.

Messanordnung01

Faulty network segments can be localised by specific active measurements of the VoIP Simulator TraceSim VoIP to the single VoIP clients with which a language reference file is sent. In the example in the next illustration is displayed that there is a problem in the network segment 3. The measurements of the VoIP Simulator to the VoIP clients which lie behind this network segment show bad QoS results.

Messanordnung02

In the next illustration is a measuring scenario illustrated where several VoIP Simulators are used, to localise the network segment which showed problems. This is in the example from the former illustration only conditionally possibly, because measurements are carried out only form one point. With this measuring configuration it can be ascertained from which network segment the disturbance appears, but no statement can be made about which network segment is exactly responsible for the problem.

Trafficlyser MMS - Centralised Measurement Solution

MMS-Struktur

Carrier and companies with big IT networks have the problem that they have to assure the operating of the company inspite of the fact, that communication technology gets more and more complicated with less and less staff. Also the servicing and supervision of these networks must be realised. This is possible only by the automation of the processes, because just for the service certified staff is required what causes high expenses.

Carrier and companies with big IT networks, which enclose several locations need measuring technology which from a central point (e.g., computer centre) does all measuring tasks and where all measurement reports, alarms and status messages accumulate to monitor the whole network.

With the Trafficlyser MMS(Measurement Managing System) by Nextragen GmbH all measurement tools of the Trafficlyser – measurement system can be controlled. Thus, e.g., automated tests can be carried out to recognise proactively network problems early and to be able to remove them. In the error case all network segments can be checked by the central location, so no technicain has to be on-site. By the teamwork of passive and active measuring components the IT network can be, e.g., passively longterm monitored and then with individually adjustable alarms the active measurement products (by hand or by an automated script) carry out the end-to-end measurement of the QoS of the disturbed network segments.

Another important point is the centralised database of the Trafficlyser MMS if it is about central reporting, the perpetuation of evidence and binding to already available databases. By the use of the Trafficlyser MMS it is possible to monitor the QoS properties of real-time applications as for example VoIP, videotelephony, conferenzing and IPTV of the complete IT network centrally and to document it.

With the Trafficlyser MMS Carrier and companies with big IT networks can optimise their service staff!!!

VoIP Readiness Checks

When it makes sense and what it depends on?

One receives certified VoIP quality before the VoIP rollout – in spite of optimum configuration of the components – but only by an active testing of the infrastructure with synthetic VoIP conversations between different measuring points.
